Super Bowl Atlanta Falcons (16-2) vs. Denver Broncos (16-2)

Jan. 31. 3:15 p.m.

Where: at Miami TV: Ch. 11

* How they got here: Atlanta won the NFC West, defeated San Francisco in the divisional playoffs, 20-18, and defeated Minnesota, 30-27, in an overtime conference championship game. Denver won the AFC West, defeated Miami, 38-3, in the divisional playoffs and defeated the New York Jets, 23-10, in the conference championship game.

* 1998 meetings: Did not play each other. Atlanta and Denver last played in 1997, a game won by the Broncos, 29-21.

* About Atlanta: For nearly 42 minutes Sunday, the Falcons did the unexpected: They shut down the Minnesota Vikings, which managed only seven points after halftime. Now they must do the same to Denver. Something else to remember: Of the 33 Super Bowls (including this year’s), Dan Reeves has been in nine of them-- as a player with the Cowboys, an assistant coach with the Cowboys and head coach of the Broncos and Falcons.

* About Denver: John Elway figures to be especially motivated against former coach Reeves. Elway said playing for Reeves was “hell” when the coach was fired after the ’92 season. The Broncos come in with all kinds of offensive weapons, most prominently Terrell Davis, only the fourth 2,000-yard rusher in NFL history.
