A funeral service for four Corona firefighters who died this week in a plane crash is set for Wednesday.

The 10:30 a.m. service will be at Crossroads Christian Church, 2331 Kellogg Ave., Corona. Only family members, firefighters and friends will be admitted, Fire Department spokesman Fred Lynch said.

Firefighters from across the state are expected to send representatives to honor Donald Butts, Daniel Alleman, Michael Chantry and John Jefferies III. They died in the crash of a plane piloted by Chantry.

The Corona Firefighters’ Assn. has established a memorial fund for the victims’ families. Contributions can be mailed to Corona Firefighters’ Benevolent Fund, P.O. Box 1510, Corona, CA 91718.

Fire officials warned Thursday that several residents have been contacted by people soliciting money in the name of the Corona Fire Department for the families of the firefighters who died.

Lynch said the department has not hired anybody to solicit funds and is not doing the solicitations. He said anybody who is asked to contribute money should call police.
