He’d Like to See Harris Remain Locked Out

I think the Lakers are making a big mistake by keeping Del Harris as their coach for another season.

By having a coach who refuses to take responsibility for motivating his players, the Lakers are robbing themselves of their best asset, youth. Young players need to be counseled, taught and motivated. Without a coach who accepts these responsibilities, their youth is not a strength but rather a weakness. It became perfectly clear last year that Del Harris is not the man for the job by the way he handled Kobe Bryant and all but destroyed his confidence after the All-Star break.

Jerry West might as well trade away the young players and assemble a team of veterans. That way, Del Harris will not have to worry about motivation and can concentrate on more important things like drawing up plays for three-pointers.

If the players’ salaries are being prorated for the shortened 1999 season, shouldn’t ticket and concession stand prices be prorated as well?
