Gonzaga 4-0 in WCC After 83-71 Victory

Jeremy Eaton scored 22 points and Gonzaga pulled away for an 83-71 victory over San Francisco Friday night in a West Coast Conference game at San Francisco.

The scored was tied 42-42 at halftime and 64-64 with 6:55 left, but Gongaza, 15-4 and 5-0 in the WCC, avoided the upset with a strong effort down the stretch against the Dons (8-12, 0-5).

Santa Clara 69, Portland 67--Alex Lopez scored 19 points and made a game-tying three-point basket to send the game into overtime as the Broncos (7-10, 3-2) beat the Pilots (7-10, 1-4) at Santa Clara.

WOMEN

No. 3 Purdue 97, Indiana 62--Stephanie White-McCarty had 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists--the first triple-double ever by a Purdue woman--as the Boilermakers (15-1, 7-0) routed the Hoosiers (13-9, 2-6) in a Big Ten game at West Lafayette, Ind.

White-McCarty made three more three-point shots to boost her career total to 153, four shy of the Purdue record set by Jennifer Jacoby from 1992-95.

No. 11 Duke 93, No. 7 North Carolina 71--Michele VanGorp scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Blue Devils to their 11th consecutive victory, defeating the Tar Heels in an Atlantic Coast Conference game at Chapel Hill, N.C.

Duke (15-4, 8-0) took a two-game conference lead and ended a 19-game home winning streak for North Carolina (19-3, 6-2).

No. 12 Old Dominion 79, James Madison 52--Aubrey Eblin scored 22 points and Sharron Francis added 15 as the Lady Monarchs (12-3, 6-0) defeated the Dukes (8-12, 2-5) in a Colonial Athletic Conference game at Norfolk, Va.

It was the 70th consecutive league victory for the Lady Monarchs.

No. 13 Virginia Tech 65, St. Joseph’s 56--Katie O’Connor had 19 points and Tere Williams 18 as the Hokies (17-0, 7-0) defeated the Hawks (11-6, 6-1) in an Atlantic 10 game at Blacksburg, Va.

Illinois 94, No. 17 Penn State 85--Susan Blauser scored a career-high 32 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Illini (11-7, 5-3) to a Big Ten victory over the Nittany Lions (12-5, 4-3) at Champaign, Ill.

No. 19 Virginia 80, Florida St. 71--Demya Walker scored 19 points and had eight rebounds to lead the Cavaliers (12-5, 5-2) to an ACC victory over the Seminoles (6-11, 1-7) at Tallahassee, Fla.

No. 24 Tulane 70, North Carolina-Charlotte 52--Grace Daley scored 18 points and Fabrecia Roberson had 12 rebounds to lead the Green Wave (16-2, 7-1) over the 49ers (4-13, 2-5) in a Conference USA game at Charlotte.
