Brea’s Lewis Hits 11 Threes to Tie Record

Sophomore guard Landon Lewis tied a county record and set a school record Friday night, making 11 three-pointers in Brea Olinda’s 87-33 Orange League victory over host Western.

Lewis, who finished with 33 points, made 11 of 14 three-point attempts, nine of them in the third quarter. His 11 three-pointers tied the record set by University’s Eric Palmer and El Toro’s Fabrizio Mendiola in 1997.

Lewis’ mark surpassed the school record of eight set in 1997 by Sean Wink, who is now playing for Northwestern.

Brea Olinda (18-2, 4-0), ranked fifth in the county, also got 16 points and 13 rebounds from Jerett Skrifvars.

Western is 2-18, 0-4.

In other Orange League games:

Savanna 65, Magnolia 63--Allan Purnell scored 26 points to lead Savanna (12-8, 3-1). Solomon Brown had 14 points and 10 assists for Savanna.

Asi Faoa scored 31 points for Magnolia (10-10, 2-2).

Valencia 57, Anaheim 51--Emmanuel Ortega scored 22 points for Valencia (6-14, 3-1).

In the Empire League:

No. 8 Loara 71, Century 61--Sophomore Wes Wardrop had 12 of his 26 points, including two three-pointers, in the fourth quarter to lead Loara’s rally. Century’s Mike Zepeda led all scorers with 25 points.

In the Express League:

Heritage Christian 52, Palos Verdes Rolling Hills Prep 45--Rolling Hills Prep, ranked fourth in the Southern Section Division V-A, had its 23-game league winning streak stopped. Heritage Christian’s Todd Warner made five three-pointers and had 18 points and Matt Winter had four three-pointers and 17 points.

In the Garden Grove League:

No. 6 Pacifica 94, Santiago 49--Brian Girard scored 21 points, including four three-pointers, and Jayson Simpson scored 20, both season-highs for Pacifica (19-1, 6-0).

Los Amigos 61, Rancho Alamitos 55--Alvaro Arcos scored 16 points for visiting Los Amigos (13-7, 4-2).

Omar Pryce scored 24 points for Rancho Alamitos (8-12, 2-4).

In the Golden West League:

No. 7 Ocean View 58, Saddleback 27--Rashaw McAfee scored 11 points and Casey Lawson scored 10 as Ocean View (17-4, 5-0) finished the first half of league, giving up only 37.8 points a game.

No. 9 Tustin 93, Westminster 54--Freshman D’Angelo Collins scored 17 points, had 19 rebounds and eight blocks for host Tustin (16-5, 4-1). Cameron Jackson had 21 points and seven assists and Kenny Crabb scored 16 and Carnell Harrell 13 for the Tillers.

Westminster is 4-18, 0-6.

Santa Ana 43, Servite 40--Darnell Graham had 19 points and seven rebounds to lead Santa Ana (10-10, 3-2).

In the Olympic League:

Calvary Chapel 53, Cerritos Valley Christian 51--Brett Young made two free throws with 11 seconds left to provide the winning margin for visiting Calvary Chapel (11-8, 4-2). Young led the Eagles with 14 points.

Sierra Madre Maranatha 62, Orange Lutheran 53--David Newkirk had 25 points for visiting Maranatha. Jason Whieldon’s 26 points led Orange Lutheran.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Laguna Beach 78, University 73--Travis Hanour scored a career-high 31 points and had 11 rebounds and six assists for the Artists. Kurt Beimfohr, who had 22 points, made two free throws with 20 seconds remaining to help put the game away for the Artists (16-4, 4-1 in league).

In the Sea View League:

No. 2 Santa Margarita 65, Corona del Mar 46--Spencer Gloger scored 26 points and Tim Rahall had 15 for Santa Margarita (18-2, 5-0).

No. 4 Newport Harbor 56, Woodbridge 53--Alan Limon hit a three-pointer with four seconds remaining and Matt Jameson blocked Josh Burgess’ shot with a second to go to preserve the victory.

Dustin Illingworth scored 19 points and was nine of 10 from the free-throw line for host Newport Harbor (19-3, 4-1).

Burgess scored 18 points for Woodbridge.

Irvine 66, El Toro 64--Matt Hardeman had 27 points, 16 in the first half for Irvine. El Toro’s Ashkan Nazeri had 20 of his 25 points in the second half.

In the South Coast League:

No. 1 Mater Dei 75, San Clemente 60--Steve Scoggin scored 21 points and Cedric Bozeman had 19 for Mater Dei, which held San Clemente (13-8, 2-4) to 10 points in the third quarter. Ben Straley scored 21 points, including five three-pointers, for the Tritons.

No. 2 Capistrano Valley 85, Mission Viejo 57--Nathan Hair scored 22 and J.J. Sola had 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead Capistrano Valley (18-4, 5-1).

Kyle Ulrich scored 18 for Mission Viejo (10-12, 2-4).

Dana Hills 74, Trabuco Hills 73 (OT)--Darnell Meyers’ three-point desperation shot at the buzzer gave Dana Hills (9-12, 2-3) the overtime victory. Trabuco Hills (11-10, 1-4), which played without two starters due to injury and sickness, was led by Brendon Martin, who had 20 of his 25 points in the second half.

In the Sunset League:

No. 10 Los Alamitos 64, Marina 58--Ron Prettyman scored nine of his 22 points in the fourth quarter to keep Los Alamitos (15-6, 5-0) in front. Prettyman also had six steals. Ryan Keller had 14 points and five assists, making 12-15 from the line.
