The City Council on Tuesday voted in favor of a resolution to recover uncollected costs for cleaning up dangerous and abandoned buildings. The outstanding charges for work performed this year under the Dangerous and Abandoned Building Program, run by the Planning and Building Agency, on 21 parcels is $78,830. Every year, officials said, the city has to seek legal recourse to recover uncollected fees from property owners whose parcels have been cleaned up. The most effective method of collection is to submit these charges to the office of the county auditor/controller, which applies the charges to the property tax rolls.
