The Livingston Memorial Foundation has awarded 41 grants to local nonprofit medical organizations totaling more than $337,000.

The organizations were selected on the basis of their needs and the services they provide within Ventura County, said Dr. Charles Hair, a co-founder and chairman of the foundation’s board.

The largest recipient was the Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurses Assn.

Among the other recipients were Camarillo Hospice, the American Red Cross, the Free Clinic of Simi Valley and Caregivers Assisting the Elderly.

Some of the programs that will be made possible by these grants are providing subsidized health care for needy Ventura County residents; assisting terminally ill patients and providing bereavement support; and providing exercise programs for multiple sclerosis patients.

“We are very interested in helping people with health-related problems when they don’t have enough money to help themselves,” Hair said.

The local foundation also named Marcia Donlon and Laura McAvoy to its board.

Other board members include Hair, Ralph Cormany, Dr. W. Cloyce Huff, Walter Hoffman and Dr. Richard Loft.
