Bantamweights Martinez, Acosta Face Off at Pond

Bantamweight Mauricio Martinez of Panama will take on Cruz Acosta of Culiacan, Mexico, in tonight’s 10-round main event at the Arrowhead Pond.

Martinez (14-3-1, nine knockouts), the 23-year-old North American Boxing Organization champion, will not put his title on the line because neither he nor Acosta made the 122-pound weight limit. Acosta, 29, is 17-1 with 11 knockouts.

In the co-main event, Los Angeles junior middleweight Dwain Williams (15-3, 11 knockouts) will face Fidel Avendano (46-11-1) of Acapulco. Williams has not fought since he was knocked out by Tito Mendoza of Panama in the fifth round in February at the Pond. The undercard begins at 7:15 p.m. The main event is scheduled for 9 p.m.
