Reynoso, Finley Key 2-0 Win
Armando Reynoso gave up five hits over eight innings and Steve Finley had three hits against his former team as the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the San Diego Padres, 2-0, Monday night.
Reynoso (6-1), who ended a stretch of six straight no-decisions, got his first victory since June 16 and his fifth straight win over a span of 15 starts. He walked two and struck out three.
The Diamondbacks, who got their fifth shutout of the season, have won six of their last seven games. San Diego didn’t advance a runner past first base against Reynoso and fell five games behind Arizona in the National League West.
Matt Mantei pitched the ninth for his 16th save.
Finley went three for four with an RBI single to help hand San Diego its fourth consecutive loss.
Tony Gwynn singled in the first for San Diego and finished one for four to close to within 12 hits of 3,000. The hit moved Gwynn ahead of Sam Rice for 23rd place on the all-time list.
