Ventura Man Killed When Car Hits Tree
A Ventura man was killed in a single-vehicle accident Tuesday when his car ran off the road and hit a tree on Oxnard Boulevard.
Bernard John Loughman Jr., 61, was traveling south on Oxnard Boulevard north of Vineyard Avenue about 6:15 a.m. when his car swerved off the road and hit the tree, authorities said. He did not appear to have been speeding, officials said, adding that he may not have been wearing a seat belt.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. There was no indication that any other vehicles were involved, Oxnard police said, but an investigation is continuing.
The accident backed up traffic in both directions as investigators examined the wreckage.
