All-Star Softball Rosters Announced

Coaches have named the rosters for the Orange County All-Star softball game June 9 at Cal State Fullerton.

The North team will be coached by John Link (Sonora) with assistance from Lance Eddy (Canyon) and Jill Matyuch (El Dorado). The South team is headed by Joe Miller (Aliso Niguel) with assistance from Margo Melendrez (Dana Hills) and Bill Everhart (San Clemente).

Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for students. Game time is 6 p.m.

Jeff Cecil was named baseball coach at Laguna Hills High, replacing Pete Tereschuk, who resigned, Athletic Director Dave Brown said.

Cecil, who will teach English, was a varsity assistant at Laguna Hills the last two years. A graduate of Long Beach State, Cecil coached baseball at Mission Hills from 1995-97 and at La Verne Damien in 1992.

Brown also announced that Tess Pautler was named girls’ volleyball coach. Pautler was an athletic trainer at Laguna Hills in 1994. Last fall, she became girls’ athletic director. Pautler replaces Pat Killiany, who moved to Carlsbad, Brown said.

Orange High has hired Randy Castillo of Santa Fe Springs St. Paul as boys’ basketball coach, Athletic Director Dave Zirkle announced. Castillo, who will teach history, coached at St. Paul the last six seasons and led the Swordsmen to the Southern Section Division IV-AA title in 1997. He is the third Panther coach in the last four years.

Sara Henderson and Jennifer Griffith have signed to play soccer at UC Irvine.

Henderson, a striker from Santa Margarita, was first-team All-Southern Section last season. Griffith, a defender from Ventura St. Bonaventure, was a three-time All-Southern Section selection.

Santa Margarita pitcher Frank Bruno has committed to Cal State Fullerton, Eagle Coach Tip Lefebvre said. . . . Adam Shaeffer, who batted .514 this season for Los Amigos, has signed to play baseball at Biola.

Dana Hills goalkeeper Parker Jarvis, an All-Southern Section Division I first-team and all-county second-team selection, has signed to play for the men’s soccer team at the University of Denver, his father, Skip, said. Parker Jarvis had 41 saves for the Dolphins.

Lauren Sigler of Esperanza has signed to play softball next season at UC Riverside, according to her coach, Dennis Fox. Sigler, an outstanding defensive third baseman, batted .271 for the Aztecs.
