Kennedy Pan Am Candidate

Adam Kennedy, former Cal State Northridge shortstop, and Derek Wallace, former Chatsworth High pitcher, are in a pool of 34 players being considered for the U.S. Pan American team, USA Baseball has announced.

Kennedy is batting .306 with eight home runs and 32 runs batted in at triple-A Memphis (Cardinals) of the Pacific Coast League.

Wallace is 2-3 with three saves and a 4.37 earned-run average in 23 relief appearances for triple-A Norfolk (Mets) of the International League.

Pro players not on a 40-man roster are eligible for the Pan Am Games on July 24-Aug. 2 in Winnipeg, Canada.

The 34 players are competing in a tryout tournament against Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic on July 16-19 at Tucson, Ariz. The 25-man U.S. team leaves for Winnipeg on July 20.

Triple A--In his first start for Rochester (Orioles), Javier Delahoya (Grant) allowed nine hits and two runs over seven innings to defeat Columbus, 10-2. Delahoya was promoted from double-A Bowie, where he was 9-1.

Class A--Designated hitter Andy Dominique (Alemany) hit his fifth home run for Clearwater (Phillies). . . . Macon (Braves) center fielder Junior Brignac (Cleveland) hit two doubles, giving him 17. . . . JETHAWKS

Greg Connors hit a run-scoring double and a run-scoring single for Lancaster, which collected 11 hits in an 8-4 loss to San Bernardino (38-27) on Tuesday night in front of 2,535 at the Hangar.

Ricky Magdaleno’s sacrifice fly gave the JetHawks (20-45) a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

JetHawk right-hander Justin Kaye (2-1, seven saves, 3.58 ERA) has been added to the Cal League all-star team. He has 33 strikeouts in 27 2/3 innings.

The JetHawks added Cuban-born pitcher Jose Klepaski to the roster.

Klepaski, 21, had been at the Seattle Mariners’ extended spring training facility in Peoria, Ariz.
