In the post-Clinton sex-hunt era that almost toppled a president, no politician can assume it is safe to conceal past personal behavior which may offend some segment of the electorate. Given our newly evolved “nothing’s private--investigate everything” culture, Jesse’s spill-it-all book is a smart and necessary move for a politician to have longevity in U.S. politics, and no one should be surprised by it. Others will undoubtedly emulate this immunizing tactic.
