Bear Wanders Onto Private School’s Campus
One black bear in Claremont wanted to be smarter than an average bear.
Authorities said the bear visited the campus of the private Webb School on Wednesday night, apparently attracted by some appetizing trash.
The animal wandered out of the nearby foothills and onto the grounds of the school shortly after 8:30 p.m., said Sheriff’s Sgt. John Broussard of the Walnut station.
The 300-pound bear knocked over a garbage can but did not hurt anyone. Law enforcement officers tried to capture the animal before it wandered back into the foothills on its own, Broussard said.
