Nursing Home Story Criticized

Share

As the administrator for Integrated Health Services at Orange Hills, one of the facilities mentioned in [a chart accompanying] the May 28 front-page article “Remedying Nursing Homes’ Ills,” I have to say I’ve never read a more indolent piece of journalism.

The erroneous and misleading statement regarding the patient’s death is flat-out wrong.

The patient did not die of an infection as a result of the staff not washing their hands. The doctor’s medical report clearly disputes this accusation.

Furthermore, the incident you chose to use in the chart is 2 years old.

Subsequent to that report, we have received many excellent ratings.

In addition, I’m offended when you make scathing generalizations about the certified nurse assistants.

We at Orange Hills, particularly the certified nurse assistants, work very hard to provide outstanding patient care.

When the patients and their families heard the remarks about the violation used in the chart, they were ready to do anything they could to protest their faith in Orange Hills.
