Recreation Centers Serve Free Lunches to Children
More than 100 recreation centers throughout Los Angeles are serving lunches to children and young people until school starts again.
Sponsored by the Summer Food Service Program for Children and funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the program started Monday and continues through Aug. 20. Any child from 1 to 19 is eligible and no identification is required, a spokesman said.
More than 8,500 lunches will be served daily to children who normally get the meals at school, said Lita Jacobs, who supervises the summer program. Each meal will have ingredients from the five basic food groups. For more information about locations, call (213) 485-4822.
