Pierce Gets Slam-Bang Start From Hodge in 12-4 Victory

Traviss Hodge hit a grand slam in the first inning and sparked Pierce College to a 12-4 victory over Ventura in a Western State Conference interdivision baseball game Thursday at Ventura.

Hodge, who played for Highland High, drove in five runs for Pierce (8-5, 1-1 in conference play).

Josh Harris had five hits and scored three runs for Pierce, which scored twice in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

Donnie Harrison had three hits and scored three runs for Ventura (7-7, 0-2).

Northwood (Texas) 3, The Master’s 1--Josh Frazier hit a two-run home run in the ninth inning of a nonconference game at The Master’s.

Jeremy Griffin hit a home run in the second for Master’s (13-5-1).

Josh Higgins (2-2) struck out seven and allowed seven hits for The Master’s.

Moorpark 3, Glendale 2--Zach Gordon hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning to give the Raiders a WSC interdivision victory at Stengel Field.

Jake Kor (1-0) struck out seven and pitched a three-hitter for Moorpark (13-8, 2-0).

Oxnard 7, Bakersfield 5--Rigo Garcia had a triple and two RBIs for the Condors in a WSC interdivision game at Oxnard.

Brett Ermilio (5-0) struck out three and allowed eight hits for Oxnard (8-5, 2-0).

Cuesta 8, Canyons 4--Sergio Franco had two hits, including a two-run homer, but Canyons squandered a 3-0 lead and lost at Cuesta in a WSC interdivision game.

Ben Carey of Cuesta (13-3, 1-0) scattered nine hits while striking out eight.

Canyons loaded the bases with none out in the eight but Carey struck out Franco and got out of the jam with a double play.

Mike Granger of Canyons (7-11, 1-1) hit a fifth-inning single to extend his hitting streak to eight games.
