Crespi Coach Lins Resigns to Lead Moorpark Football

Share

Tim Lins, the football coach at Crespi High for the past 10 seasons, resigned Friday to accept a similar position at Moorpark High.

Lins’ decision to leave one of the Valley’s distinguished programs does not come as a surprise. He lives in Moorpark, down the street from the high school, and became interested in the job after Ron Wilford resigned last month to become an assistant coach at Pierce College.

Lins is highly regarded among his peers. He guided Crespi to seven playoff berths in 10 seasons, six of those coming in Division I. In 1993, Crespi reached the Division I semifinals before losing to Eisenhower.

Lins was an All-American tight end at Cal Lutheran and served as an assistant coach at Crespi in 1986 when the Celts became the first--and only--Valley team to win a Division I championship.

Crespi Principal David Doyle will launch a search for Lins’ replacement. Defensive coordinator Richard Fong, who also serves as athletic director and used to coach at St. Genevieve, said he will not be a candidate for the position.
