No-Contest Plea Entered in Child Pornography Case

A Tarzana man arrested in an Internet sting operation originating in Georgia pleaded no contest Monday to possessing child pornography.

David B. Altieri, 34, was placed on three years’ probation by Los Angeles Municipal Judge Barbara Johnson, prosecutors said. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender and pay $1,485 in fines.

The investigation into Altieri began in August after a member of the Houston County, Ga., Sheriff’s Department posted an ad on an Internet newsgroup offering to trade or sell videos of boys having sex, said Deputy City Atty. Michele Anderson.

A Georgia officer received an electronic message from Altieri by Web TV in response to the advertisement, Anderson said. Altieri later mailed the undercover officer child pornography.

The Houston County sheriff turned the case over to U.S. postal inspectors, who in turn contacted the Sexually Exploited Child Unit of the Los Angeles Police Department.

On Oct. 21, LAPD detectives served a search warrant in which they seized Web TV equipment and stored e-mail that included child pornography. Altieri was charged Jan. 11.
