MIKE BAYER

Mater Dei

Sr.

6-7

F/C

Bayer, a true forward, was a stalwart at center for most of the season until the return of Jamal Sampson midway though the playoffs. Bayer averaged 14.1 points and 8.6 rebounds and will likely play power forward when he attends Manhattan College.

KYLE DODD

Brea Olinda

Sr.

6-0

Guard

A quick player who could also reach well above the rim, he was a strong rebounder for a guard, although he liked to pass the most. He averaged 9.2 assists to go along with his team-high 17.9 points. He made 51.3% of his field goal tries.

TONY DOW

Ocean View

Sr.

6-0

Guard

When Dow had the ball in his hands, things happened. A two-time all-county choice, he averaged 5.8 assists a game and was twice named to nonleague all-tournament teams. “He was the most explosive, unselfish player in Orange County,” Coach Jim Harris said.

ANDREW PLEICK

Los Alamitos

Sr.

6-4.

Guard

A native of Sweden, he brought a European-flair to the county. The Sunset League’s most valuable player could post up, but was adept at shooting off the dribble, or spotting up for the three-point shot. Averaged 15.3 points, 8.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists.

ADAM RACHLIN

Pacifica

Sr.

5-10

Guard

A second-team selection a year ago, he averaged 15.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists. Coach Bob Becker called him “the heart and soul of our team.” He led the Mariners to the best regular-season record in the county and most overall victories (27) in school history.

STEVE SCOGGIN

Mater Dei

Jr.

6-1

Guard

Tough and quick, he led the Monarchs in scoring (14.3 points) and was a floor leader throughout in leading the Monarchs to a Southern Section Division I-A title and into the state Division I title game. Shot 74.7% from the line and made 42.3% of three-point attempts.

MIKE STOWELL
