Titans’ Johnson Strikes Out 12 in Victory

Adam Johnson struck out 12 and gave up only four hits in leading Cal State Fullerton to a 4-0 victory over Sacramento State in Big West Conference baseball Friday at Fullerton.

The Titans (39-8, 20-2 in conference) won their ninth consecutive game, tying their second longest winning streak this season. Johnson improved to 8-2 with the complete-game victory.

First baseman Chris Beck had two hits and a run scored, extending his hitting streak to 11 games for Fullerton. Shortstop Shawn Norris had two hits, three runs batted in and one run scored to lead the Titans.

The second game of the three-game series starts at 1 p.m. today.

In Golden State Athletic Conference softball:

Southern California College 6-3, Cal Baptist 1-0--Freshman Gina Liebengood (18-3) pitched a five-hitter, striking out six in the second game and Gretchen Brandt struck out nine in the first game for host SCC (42-10, 19-1).

At the Golden State Athletic Conference women’s track and field finals:

SCC sixth, Concordia seventh--Southern California College’s Monica Landa won the 10,000 meters in 37 minutes 50.83 seconds to help the Vanguards finish sixth with 66.5 points. Point Loma Nazarene won with 265.5 points.

Tricia Mattson won the 1,500 (4:38.84), Rachel Lafady won the 3,000 (10:28.88) and Heather Quinn won the heptathlon (3,788 points) for Concordia.
