Crescenta Valley Overcomes Errors

A day after making five errors in a Pacific League loss to Arcadia High, Crescenta Valley survived eight errors in a 12-11, 11-inning nonleague victory over Loyola on Saturday at Crescenta Valley.

The Falcons (19-3) hit eight doubles, including two each by Tim Balkey and Mark McCauley an one each by David Decker, Roy Spaulding, John Barbaro and Clint Radenbaugh.

Against Arcadia, Jordan Olson (9-1) suffered his first defeat.

In other games:

Channel Islands 13, Calabasas 3--Joe Spicer had three hits and two runs batted in and scored three runs for host Channel Islands (10-13) in a nonleague game.

Oscar Castro had two hits, including a two-run single, and scored twice for the Raiders.

Brian Millman had two hits including a double for Calabasas (10-12).

Royal 15-19, Hueneme 2-8--Brian Lipman had three home runs, two doubles and nine RBIs for visiting Royal in a nonleague doubleheader.

Lipman hit his seventh, eighth and ninth home runs of the season, all with multiple runners on base during the first game.

Eight home runs were hit by Royal (16-5-1) during the two games. The second game was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

For Hueneme (9-12), Jaime Martinez hit a home run in each game.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Moorpark 8, Hancock 7--The Raiders scored four runs in the ninth inning on two consecutive walks followed by three consecutive singles to capture a Western State Conference Northern Division game at Moorpark (26-18, 15-10).

Steve Nelson’s only hit drove in the winning run.

Chris Barbettini (3-1) shut Hancock down in the final 1 2/3 innings to earn the victory in relief of left-hander Micah Weathers, who was pulled after yielding a two-run home run that gave Hancock a 7-4 lead.

Ventura 9, Oxnard 1--David Arroyo pitched 7 2/3 shutout innings, scattering two hits with five strikeouts and one walk for Ventura (25-16, 15-10) in a WSC Northern Division game at Oxnard (15-25, 8-17).

Arroyo (5-3) retired the final eight batters he faced and left the game with a 7-0 lead.

David Chaparro had two hits and three RBIs for Ventura.
