Boller Connects With Valley All-Star Game

All-American quarterback Kyle Boller of Hart High will play in the third annual Valley Youth Conference East-West All-Star football game on June 5 at 7 p.m. at Cal State Northridge.

The game brings together high school seniors from the San Fernando, Santa Clarita, Simi, Conejo and Antelope valleys, and the Burbank, Glendale and Pasadena areas.

Boller, who is headed to California, ranked No. 2 in the nation last fall with 4,841 yards passing and 59 touchdowns. He will play for the East team coached by Jim Bonds of Alemany. Nick Czernek of Newbury Park will quarterback the West team coached by George Hurley of Newbury Park.

* Pierce College is holding a clinic for high school and youth coaches on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Brahma Coach David Banuelos said Northridge Coach Ron Ponciano, UCLA assistant Gary Bernardi, Arizona State assistant Ron English and Cal Lutheran Coach Scott Squires will be among the speakers.

Cost is $30 per person prepaid, $35 at the door or $100 for a four-coach group.

BASEBALL

* Lancaster High must forfeit 11 victories because of an ineligible player, dropping the Eagles out of contention for a Southern Section playoff berth.

An administrative error caused the ineligibility, Vice Principal Gilbert Lara said. The player, who transferred to Lancaster under open enrollment, would have been eligible had the proper transfer form been filed with the Southern Section. The school discovered the oversight last week and reported it to the section.

Under a new rule that takes effect on July 1, Lancaster would have forfeited only one game instead of each game in which the player participated.

Lara said the school will institute several changes to prevent a similar oversight. Lancaster’s record dropped to 3-19.

* Jason Allec, a 6-2, 170-pound catcher from Highland High, signed with Cal State Northridge. Allec is batting .470 with seven home runs this season.

SWIMMING

College of the Canyons swimmers Christian Kneppeck and Becky Skyler earned junior college All-American honors for their performances in the state championships earlier this month.

Kneppeck, a freshman from Hart High, placed second in the men’s 400-yard individual medley in 4:05.99, seventh in the 100 individual medley in 1:02.20 and 10th in the 200 backstroke in of 1:59.30 at Diablo College in Walnut Creek.

Skyler, another Hart graduate, placed fourth in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.60 and the 50-yard butterfly in 27.59, and was seventh in the 100 IM in 1:02.20.

TENNIS

* Quoc Ly and Josh Bratton defeated Mike Mancini and Andrew Gold, 7-5, 7-5, in an all-Camarillo High final to capture the Pacific View League doubles title at Camarillo.

Both teams advance to the Southern Section regional May 22 at Cate High in Carpinteria.

GOLF

Entries are available for the third annual Valley Youth Conference celebrity golf tournament Monday at Porter Valley Country Club in Northridge.

NFL players Jim Everett, Jamal Anderson and Erik Kramer are expected among the participants.
