Anaheim’s Miller to Retire After 26 Years at School

Dan Miller, the Anaheim High athletic director, said Friday he will retire at the end of year after 26 years at the school.

Miller will be replaced by Dave Torres, who has been baseball coach at Anaheim the last 12 years.

Miller and his wife Karen, who is retiring after 22 years as athletic director at Cal Poly Pomona, will be moving to Idaho next year.

Santa Margarita assistant Bob Serven has been hired as boys’ basketball coach at Costa Mesa. He replaces Erich Allen, who resigned last month after an 11-62 record in three years.

Serven was 58-49 as Newport Harbor coach from 1989-1993. He inherits a team that has lost 39 consecutive Pacific Coast League games and has not finished above .500 in 17 seasons.

Individual game tickets for the Bullfrogs’ 1999 Roller Hockey International season go on sale today at the Arrowhead Pond and all Ticketmaster locations.

Tickets are $14 in the lower level at center, $12 in the lower level behind the goals and $10 in the upper level. The Bullfrogs host the San Jose Rhinos at 7 p.m. on June 5 in the first of 13 home games.

The Bullfrogs will hold open tryouts, Wednesday and Thursday at the Inline Hockey and Sports Club of Tustin.

Cost to participate is $99, which includes a Bullfrog jersey and insurance. Skaters must be at least 18 and provide skates, sticks, helmet and full padding.

The tryout will be held from 10 a.m. to noon. Advance registration is required by May 18. For more information, call (877) 939-7663.

Jason Lowery has been hired as men’s basketball coach at Hope International University, Athletic Director Glenn Snyder said.

Lowery, who was an assistant at Redlands the last two years, replaces Tom Moody, who resigned in March after posting an 11-52 record in two seasons. Lowery will also teach physical education classes and serve as sports information director for Hope.
