Pacific Shuts Down Titans in Softball

Cal State Fullerton lost both games of a doubleheader to Pacific Friday, failing to score a run in either game. The Titans fell 5-0 and 4-0 in Big West Conference softball at Fullerton.

In the first game, pitcher Brandee McArthur (21-11), led the way for Pacific (36-20, 15-8), hitting a home run and going the distance, striking out seven and allowing no walks. Tiffany Heilbut and Michelle Cordes each had two hits and a RBI for the Tigers. Nikki Hart and Stephenie Little each had two hits for the Titans (34-26, 13-10), .

In game two Adrienne Ratajczak, hit a home run and was three for four with three RBIs for the Tigers.

In another Big West softball doubleheader:

Long Beach State 3-5, Sacramento State 0-0--Kristi Fox threw her first no-hitter in the first game and Traci Hensel threw a two-hitter as the 49ers (32-19, 16-7) won at Long Beach. The 49ers clinched the conference title.

A hit batter and an error kept Fox from pitching a perfect game, and Hensel faced the minimum 21 batters in the second game.

In NCAA men’s tennis regionals:

UCLA 4, Western Michigan 0--Jean-Noel Ginda, the Bruins’ No. 1 player, defeated Mohamed Dakki, 6-3, 6-0, and No. 4 Jong-Min Lee defeated Steve Pillon, 6-3, 6-2. The doubles team of Marcin Rozpedski and Chris Sands got things started off for UCLA with an 8-2 victory over Kyle Gernofer and Demain Pons. UCLA will play San Diego State, a 4-1 winner over Tulsa, in today’s 3 p.m. final at the L.A. Tennis Center on the UCLA campus.

Pepperdine 4, New Mexico 0--A pair of freshmen led the Waves at Tempe, Ariz., as Sebastien Graeff defeated Nicolas Dubey, 6-4, 6-2, and former Woodbridge standout Chase Exon downed Michael Polasek, 6-0, 2-6, 6-1. Junior Anthony Ross topped John Kowalski, 7-6, 6-1. Pepperdine will meet host Arizona State in a noon final tody at Tempe.
