In another Division I second-round match:
Royal def. Downey, 15-12, 17-15, 15-12--Cam Dickson had nine of his 24 kills in the second game and three of his five blocks in the third game to help the top-seeded Highlanders win at Downey.
Dickson also had eight kills in the third game.
Ryan Moberley added 15 kills for Royal (25-0).
Back-row specialist Scott Arnold made 10 digs and Matt Janousek had 48 assists for the Highlanders.
Esperanza def. Crescenta Valley, 15-7, 15-10, 15-10--Dusty Russell and Phil Peterson each had 12 kills and Scott Winant had 48 assists for host Esperanza (17-2).
DIVISION II
Alemany def. Foothill, 15-0, 15-12, 15-7--Richard Nelson had eight kills with just one hitting error in the first game and the Indians (12-6) swept past Foothill (11-5) at Alemany.
Nelson finished with 16 kills and Eugene Kim had 10 blocks, including five in the opening game.
