Alemany def. Bishop Montgomery, 15-11, 15-12, 15-13--The Indians advanced to the semifinals behind UCLA-bound Richard Nelson, who had 18 kills and served the final four points of the third game at Alemany.

In upsetting No. 3-seeded Bishop Montgomery, the Indians (13-6) played tremendous defense and received strong play from Darrin Phillips, who had 13 kills, Joe Chavez, who contributed nine kills, and setter Kevin O’Shea, who had 44 assists.

Nelson missed seven matches this season because of a broken finger, but his absence might have been a blessing in disguise.
