Biola Pitcher Rouwenhorst Named NAIA All-American

Jonathon Rouwenhorst, a sophomore pitcher at Biola from Brethren Christian High, was named an NAIA baseball first-team All-American.

Azusa Pacific junior outfielder Brian Griffin, formerly of Santa Margarita High and Saddleback College, earned honorable mention honors.

In softball, Southern California College’s Chrissy Vega, a senior outfielder, and freshman pitcher Gina Liegengood earned second-team All-America honors.

Coaches have been named for the North-South All-Star softball game on June 9.

Sonora’s John Link will head the North, and he will be assisted by Jill Matyuch (El Dorado) and Lance Eddy (Canyon). Aliso Niguel’s Joe Miller will direct the South, with assistance from Margo Melendrez (Dana Hills) and Bill Everhart (San Clemente).

Coaches were selected by the Kiwanis Club of Anaheim Hills/Yorba Linda.

Kim Rahm has been hired as the girls’ basketball coach at her alma mater, Whittier Christian, the school announced. Rahm graduated from Biola in 1995, and replaces Steve Randall, who will concentrate on the football program. Rahm will teach math and athletic classes.

The second annual South Orange County Roundball Extravaganza of basketball is scheduled for June 6 at Laguna Hills High.

Boys’ events include a game between eighth-grade standouts, a game between high school underclassmen and a game for recently graduated high school players. A girls’ all-star game is also planned, as are three-point shooting and dunk contests.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for students and $3 for children. For information, call (949) 206-2441.
