Chapman Women Reach Soccer Playoffs

For the first time in school history, Chapman received a bid to the NCAA Division III women’s soccer playoffs and will play a first-round West Region game at Cal Lutheran Wednesday at 11.

Chapman (13-4) defeated Cal Lutheran (14-6), 1-0, Sept. 20. The winner of Wednesday’s game advances to play at UC San Diego Saturday.

SOFTBALL

Marlon Buttram has been hired to coach softball at Troy High, Athletic Director John Turek announced.

Buttram, 34, has coached travel teams for the last six years. He replaces Sue Garrison, who resigned from her volleyball and softball coaching positions in June.

* Tia Bollinger of Mater Dei has committed to play at Washington and teammate and center fielder Courtney Betley has committed to play at Michigan, Monarch Coach Ed Ulloa said.

Bollinger struck out 149 and Betley hit .407 last season.
