OCC-Cypress Game Stopped Because of Fight

The Orange Empire men’s soccer game between Orange Coast and Cypress was stopped Tuesday with about five minutes remaining and the score tied, 2-2, as a result of a bench-clearing fight at Orange Coast.

According to Orange Coast College Community Relations Office representative Tyson Chaney, the campus police questioned more than a dozen players, coaches and spectators from both sides.

The Costa Mesa Police Department also was called to the scene, but no arrests were made.

Seven red and yellow cards were given out and both teams had a player ejected in the 75th minute.

Cypress Coach Tony Baca declined comment.

Matt Beneda and Adriano Lima scored for Cypress (1-14-1, 0-9-1) and Mike Carvin and John Gump scored for the Pirates (3-13-4, 2-6-3).

In other conference games:

Santa Ana 2, Irvine Valley 0--Tomas Serna and Keith Buckley each scored to lead visiting Santa Ana (19-0, 10-0), which remains undefeated and in first place in conference. Irvine Valley is 11-6-1, 6-4.

In Orange Empire Conference women’s soccer:

Cypress 7, Orange Coast 0--Lisa Hermen scored three goals to help Cypress (21-0, 10-0) clinch the conference title with two games remaining. Orange Coast dropped to 6-11-4, 4-5-2.
