An 11-year-old boy was sideswiped by a car in Tustin Thursday afternoon while attempting to run across a street that police said prohibits pedestrian crossings.

The boy was running across McFadden Street at the Myrtle Avenue intersection at 1:50 p.m. when he was struck by the right-side car mirror, officials said. He suffered injuries to his head, elbow and ribs that appear not to be life-threatening, said Tustin Police Officer Jon Cartwright.

The boy was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana.

The estimated speed of the car was within the speed limit, about 30 to 35 miles per hour, and police are still investigating who is at fault, Cartwright said.
