In Sunset League boys’ water polo:

Edison 11, Marina 6--Todd Ciborowski scored four goals and Greg Kobzeff and Shaun Carman each scored two, as Edison (15-11) won the third-place playoff to earn a Southern Section playoff berth for the first time since 1992.

In nonleague water polo:

Santa Ana Valley 19, Whittier California 8--Fernando Garcia scored 11 goals to lead host Santa Ana Valley (22-6). Garcia has the school single-season scoring record with 132 goals, breaking Todd Wines’ record of 126.

In South Coast League boys’ cross-country:

Milner wins championship--San Clemente’s Garrett Milner won the three-mile league championship race at Laguna Niguel Regional Park in 15 minutes 22 seconds. Sam Marquez finished second (15:30) for Trabuco Hills.

In the South Coast League girls’ cross-country:

Rettmann gets title--Sara Rettmann won the three-mile race in 18:36 for fourth-place Mission Viejo at Laguna Niguel Regional Park and will advance to Southern Section. Second-place Dana Hills is the league champion based upon overall dual meet victory.

In the Century League girls’ tennis finals:

Hohenstein wins title--Canyon junior Heather Hohenstein won the singles title with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over teammate Nicole Sadler. Tiffany Cheung and Tina Pattara of Villa Park won the doubles title, 6-2, 6-3.

In the Empire League finals:

Dao wins--El Dorado freshman Kim Dao beat defending league champion Samantha Waller of Cypress, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, in the singles final, and teamed with Gunjan Nanda to win the doubles title by defeating El Dorado’s Jackie Mantegna and Angela Rodriguez, 6-0, 6-0.

In the Freeway League finals:

Kao wins--Sunny Hills sophomore Joanna Kao won her second straight league title by defeating Troy’s Serena Fermin, 6-0, 6-0. Troy’s Lori Judd and Stacey Lee won the doubles title, defeating Troy’s Michelle Dinh and Karen Eitan, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.

In the Serra League finals:

Esmero wins--Mater Dei senior Melissa Esmero defeated Santa Margarita’s Erin Miller, 6-2, 6-1, to win the singles title. Mater Dei’s Jodie Nygaard and Lauren Thomas beat teammates Erin Herrel and Casey Knutson, 6-2, 6-1, in the doubles final.
