SEASON AT A GLANCE: Carlson, unheralded before the season, has emerged as Taft’s top receiver. He has 39 catches for 862 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging 22.1 yards per catch. He has above-average speed and excellent hands, and is adept at out-wrestling defenders for high passes.

WEEK AT A GLANCE: Carlson set a Taft single-game record with 293 yards receiving in a 48-28 victory over Chatsworth, breaking a previous mark set in 1975 by Jeff Fisher, coach of the Tennessee Titans. Carlson had eight catches, including three for touchdowns. The longest was a 96-yarder with a minute left in the first half.

YEAR: Freshman

SPORT: Tennis

SEASON AT A GLANCE: Everly, ranked No. 15 in the girls’ 14 division in Southern California by the U.S. Tennis Assn., has lived up to her reputation. She plays No. 1 singles for Calabasas (16-3) and has a 54-6 record in sets this season. The Coyotes are ranked No. 2 in The Times’ regional top 10.

WEEK AT A GLANCE: Everly won the Frontier League singles title with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Calabasas teammate Jackie Yano. The 1998 champion, Shervin Saedinia, was the player Everly replaced at No. 1 singles for the Coyotes. Everly also won two of three sets in a 12-6 victory over Agoura in a regular-season finale.
