A 67-year-old Saticoy resident who walked away from a care home was found early Monday morning after spending the night outdoors.

Jacqueline Briscoe, whom authorities said is mentally disabled and unable to speak, wandered out of the Cottonwood, a boarding home for the disabled, around 4 p.m. Sunday, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

A search party, which included three dogs and at least one helicopter, looked for Briscoe through the night. She was found before 8 a.m. sitting along railroad tracks about a mile east of Saticoy.

“I went twice to the place where they found her, so I don’t know where she spent the night,” said Connie Cortes, owner of the Cottonwood, where Briscoe has lived for at least the past 15 years.

Briscoe has wandered out of the home one other time in recent years, Cortes said.

Briscoe was taken to Ventura County Medical Center by ambulance to be checked for exposure.
