CITY INVITATIONAL FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Running Game, Cassel Lifts Chatsworth
Relying heavily on its running game, Chatsworth High scored 25 unanswered points in the second half en route to a 39-17 victory over Eagle Rock in a City Invitational first-round playoff game Thursday night at Chatsworth.
Quarterback Matt Cassel, who suffered a concussion last week, rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another.
Running back Samuel Wesley rushed for a season-high 181 yards and a touchdown in 23 carries for the Chancellors.
Trailing, 17-14, Chatsworth (4-7) broke it open in the third quarter.
USC-bound Cassel, who rushed for 71 yards in 12 carries, scored on runs of seven and five yards, and connected with Mark Harris on a six-yard scoring pass play.
The Chancellors sacked Torwin Session of Eagle Rock (8-3) six times. Mike Garcia’s sack of Session in the end zone was Chatsworth’s final score.
