In other Division III first-round games:
Hart 62, Quartz Hill 18--Coach Mike Herrington said he was a little concerned when Hart fell behind the Rebels (3-8) in the first quarter, 12-0.
But only a little.
Hart (11-0), seeded No. 1 in the division, finally got moving and put up 42 consecutive points to coast at College of the Canyons.
“We had confidence we could score on them, but you’re always a little worried when you get behind 12-0,” Herrington said.
Hart quarterback Kyle Matter surpassed the 3,000-yard plateau, completing 24 of 35 passes for 461 yards and five touchdowns. He has passed for 3,167 yards and 46 touchdowns.
Running back Tim Gregory had 138 yards and three touchdowns in 10 carries, and caught seven passes for 115 yards and one touchdown.
Matter’s favorite target was Chris Ciccone, who had nine receptions for 129 yards and two touchdowns, and Jared Bazar, who finished with four catches for 150 yards and a touchdown.
