CSUN Women Sign Portland Center

Jennifer Shetters, a 6-4 post player from Wilson High in Portland, Ore., has signed a letter of intent with the Cal State Northridge women’s basketball team.

Shetters, who averaged 11.9 points and 10.1 rebounds last season, is the first player Matador Coach Frozena Jerro has signed this recruiting period.

* Former Santa Clara High point guard B.J. Ward is expected to make his debut today for UC Santa Barbara, which hosts to Stanford in a 7 p.m. game.

Ward was supposed to redshirt with former Santa Clara teammate Nick Jones, but the suspension of senior guard Larry Bell has forced the Gauchos to put Ward in their rotation.

CROSS-COUNTRY

The start times for the girls’ and boys’ varsity races in the City Section finals today at Pierce College were incorrect in Friday’s edition.

The girls’ varsity race will start at 9 a.m., with the boys’ at 9:30.

TENNIS

Bob Bryan of Camarillo defeated Oliver Gross of Germany, 6-3, 7-5, in a quarterfinal match of the $25,000 U.S. Tennis Assn. Challenger on Friday at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage.

Westlake Baseball Assn. player registration is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the Vons market on Agoura Road in Westlake Village and at the Albertson’s market on Lindero Canyon Road in Westlake.
