Lesson Missed on Pokemon Toys

Share

* Re “Pokemon Fever Turns Into a Headache at Burger King,” Nov. 12:

While I can understand children’s tears at Burger King’s shortage of Pokemon toys, I am saddened by the amount of anger shown by parents who are outraged by the shortages.

Instead of using this as a lesson to children that sometimes things happen to prevent us from getting what we want, too many parents send the message that “toys” and “things” are important enough to cry and get angry over.

With all the injustices and poverty in the world, once again I am aware of how so many children are being raised to believe they are entitled to have everything.

So when a child finally gets his Burger King toy, remind him of how many children in many different places have a stick to play with.

* Somewhere in our country right now a child, mother, father, sister or brother is dying of cancer, a baby is born grossly deformed, a person’s house has burned down.

Somewhere a daddy or mommy has been killed in an accident on the way home from work, a family can’t afford to feed or clothe itself, children are raising themselves because their parents are addicts, another family wonders how in the world it will pay the bills.

But wait. It gets much worse: Burger King has run out of Pokemon toys.

America, get a grip.
