Two Shot En Route to High School
A 15-year-old being driven to school was shot and wounded Monday by a man who walked up to the passenger window and fired, authorities said.
Lamar Perry, a ninth-grader, was hospitalized in stable condition, authorities said. He was shot in his right shoulder, and suffered wounds to his head and mouth, police said. He and his brother, Jerome Perry, 17, a 10th-grader, were riding in a car driven by Charon Leslie, 20, who was also injured.
At 7:30 a.m., Leslie stopped for a red light at 8th and Slauson avenues, several blocks from Crenshaw High School, when a man approached the car on the passenger side, police said. The man asked the three where they were from and then fired before they could answer, police said.
Leslie sped west on Slauson to Crenshaw Boulevard, where police and an ambulance were summoned. He suffered a gunshot wound to his right arm, police said. Jerome Perry was uninjured.
