Barrera Brothers Spark Valley

Brothers Mike and Eddie Barrera combined for nine goals and the Valley College men’s water polo team beat Cerritos, 27-13, in a nonconference match Friday at Valley.

Mike Barrera had five goals for the Monarchs (6-6-1). Mike Barrera, Josh Wilson and Daniel Sandoval each had two goals in the first period, when Valley took a 9-2 lead.

Sandoval and Alfred Trapzian each finished with three goals for Valley.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Buckley 9, Campbell Hall 9--Jessica Schofler, Jessica Werber and Leala Shah each won two sets and Buckley won six of nine singles sets and edged Campbell Hall on games, 72-68, in a Delphic League match at Studio City Golf and Tennis.

Melissa Nguyen claimed the only singles victories for Campbell Hall (5-4, 0-2), improving to 27-0 this season.

Buckley (6-1, 2-0) lost six of nine doubles sets, as Bri Delamarter and Sarah Senechal swept three sets for Campbell Hall. The team of Christine Berberian and Rubina Andonian won two sets, and Emily Bruckner and Pia Varma won one.

The Vikings played without their usual No. 2 singles player, Lenna Vanerian, who was held out for disciplinary reasons.

Jackie Stein, usually a doubles player, played at No. 2 singles, and Anne Sweeney played her first match at No. 3 singles.

Camarillo 18, Malibu 0--No. 2 player Michelle Alvarez did not give up a game and Lauren Gaona lost just one as the Scorpions (4-4) swept the Sharks (0-6) in a nonleague victory at Malibu.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Rio Mesa 10, Crespi 7--Nick Glaze scored four goals, Trevor Owens three and goalie Dan Improta blocked a school-record 34 shots--including one from just four meters--for the Spartans (5-3) in a nonleague game at Rio Mesa.

Hernan Golbert had three goals for Crespi (6-7).

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Canyons 1, Santa Barbara 0--The host Cougars (10-1-1, 3-1-1) were outshot, 9-6, but Jessica Gregg’s first-half goal provided the difference in a Western State Conference interdivisional game.

Ventura 2, Bakersfield 0--Lacey Hanna and Sara Costello each scored a goal for the Pirates (6-3-3, 2-0-2) in a WSC interdivisional game at Bakersfield.

Oxnard 7, Glendale 2--Tenley Garcia scored four goals, all in the second half, and Oxnard (6-3-1, 3-1) won a WSC game at the Glendale Sports Complex.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Westmont def. The Master’s, 15-11, 15-12, 15-12--Lisa Lucas and Jorden Gienger each had eight kills and Kim Gibson added seven kills for The Master’s (12-6) in a nonconference match.

Santa Monica City def. Moorpark, 15-10, 15-8, 16-14--Casey Ragland had eight kills and Toni Merendino added seven kills for Moorpark (3-2, 0-1), but the Raiders lost a WSC interdivisional match at Santa Monica.

Wendy Wilkins had 15 kills and Elsa Lubisich added 14 kills for Westmont.
