Developing Crisis
* As all the parties in the Barham Ranch dispute await their day in court, I have to question, should it come to this? Would it not be appropriate for the county to use every possible resource to conserve the land? Would it not be more productive for the Serrano Water District to consider other options? Would it not be more appropriate for SunCal to develop a less sensitive area? I guess it all comes down to a question of responsibility.
[State environmental law], conflict of interest, fiduciary responsibility--all are important issues, but doesn’t our future take precedent? If we don’t preserve Orange County’s uniqueness what will we have?
A homogenized stream of tract homes is not what makes Orange County what it is today.
It is a masterful balance of housing that is spread out in a way where the residents can enjoy where they live. It is a place where we have both parks and open space. If we allow our last pieces of open space to be destroyed, we will destroy our image, our beauty and our property values. I plead to everyone to do their part to stop the development of Barham Ranch.
