Freeway Reopened After Big-Rig Crash
The Antelope Valley Freeway was reopened early Monday after a fiery semitruck crash closed it for nearly eight hours, according to authorities.
Carrying a load of copper wire, the three-axle truck was heading south toward the Angeles Forest Highway interchange just after 9 p.m. Sunday when it overturned and caught fire, said Officer Shirley Gaines, spokeswoman for the California Highway Patrol. No one was injured.
“For an unknown reason the driver allowed his vehicle to drive off the roadway and collide with a concrete barrier,” Gaines said.
Both directions of the freeway near Angeles Forest Highway were closed until about 4:45 a.m.
Although some witnesses had reported hearing explosions, there were no explosives on the truck, Gaines said. The accident is under investigation.
