Unusual Matchup Possible Next Week

Share

Next Friday, a rare situation may take place when the Clippers play Toronto in an exhibition game at the Raptors’ Air Canada Centre.

An athlete will compete against his agent when the Clippers’ Derek Anderson and Raptors’ Percy Miller play in the same exhibition.

Anderson, acquired in a trade from Cleveland during the off-season, has been represented by Miller’s No Limit agency since he graduated from Kentucky in 1997. Miller, better known as hip-hop mogul Master P, played at the University of Houston and was invited to training camp last season with the Charlotte Hornets.

Anderson and Miller are well aware of their potential matchup.

“It’s something we’ve played around with already,” said Anderson, who averaged 10.8 points and 3.8 assists last season with the Cavaliers.

“It’s going to be fun. It’s going to be like playing against my boys from college in the pros. . . . It’s going to be nothing personal, but we’re going to go at each other.”

Owner Donald Sterling was on hand for the Clippers’ first full training camp scrimmage Thursday night in which Maurice Taylor led all scorers with 25 points.

Mainly because of newcomer Lamar Odom, the Clippers seemed to pass more in one scrimmage than they did in a majority of last season’s games.

“I saw a lot of good ball movement and transition offense,” Coach Chris Ford said. “They all worked hard. They are pushing one another, which is good.”

Center Michael Olowokandi did not participate in the scrimmage because of a hip injury suffered in the morning practice.
