Bolsa Grande held its homecoming festivities at halftime of Friday’s Garden Grove League game against Pacifica, but it was the Mariners’ Jeff Weber who left the field as king.

The Pacifica senior ran for two touchdowns, returned a fumble for another, returned a free kick for a fourth, and kicked seven conversions and a field goal for a total of 34 points as the Mariners beat the Matadors, 66-0.

Pacifica (4-1, 2-0), which is tied with Garden Grove for the league lead, piled up 405 yards--to just 38 for the Matadors (0-5, 0-1)--and scored at will in building a 34-0 first-quarter lead.

Bolsa Grande muffed the opening kickoff and Sean Blankenship recovered at the Bolsa 22, setting up an eight-yard scoring run by Jared Kemp. Kemp rushed for 60 yards and three touchdowns, all in the first 14 minutes of the game.

The Mariners increased the lead to 20-0 with two touchdowns 19 seconds apart. Joey Fuske connected with Jeremy Lovelace on an 11-yard scoring pass, and Ben Denis recovered a Matador fumble at the Bolsa two to set up Kemp’s second touchdown for a 20-0 lead just 5:07 into the game.

Bolsa Grande turned the ball over twice more in the quarter. Weber returned a fumble 44 yards for a touchdown, and Brandon Craig returned an interception 42 yards.
