Hancock 45, Valley 13--The Monarchs (3-2, 2-1) couldn’t run, pass, catch or do much of anything in a WSC Northern Division game at Hancock (4-1, 2-1).
Valley committed four turnovers and dropped 10 passes, including four apiece by leading receivers Jerome Riley and Julian Battle.
Valley’s Eric Holtfreter completed 19 of 41 passes for 169 yards and had two passes intercepted.
But Holtfreter, among the state’s leading passers, played much better than his statistics indicate.
The sophomore quarterback had his first five passes fall incomplete, with four hitting the receivers in the chest.
After building a 31-7 lead at halftime, Hancock came after Holtfreter, sacking him three times.
Hancock’s Doug Pazdan completed six of 10 passes for 125 yards, including touchdown throws of 27, 12 and 59 yards.
Two of the scores went to Jason Ferkel, who finished with four catches for 88 yards.
