Quarterback Jonathon Brewster of Notre Dame is not inspired by the sight of blood, although his older brother, Scott, is an emergency room doctor at UCLA Medical Center.

“Here I have one son who loves it and is making a living from it, and another who faints,” mother Karen Brewster said.

So there was Jonathon with blood all over his arm in the second quarter Friday against Pasadena after suffering a gash. Scott came out of the stands ready to stitch the wound immediately.

“I’ll do it right now,” he told Jonathon.

“Without Novocaine?” Jonathon protested.

Jonathon’s arm was bandaged, allowing him to return. After the game, Scott gave his brother seven stitches for no cost.

“You know, I saved you a bundle,” Scott told his parents.

Of course, they reminded him about paying for his tuition in medical school.

Jonathon is expected to play Friday night in Notre Dame’s game at Bishop Montgomery.
