‘80s Redux

Share

Perms, pumps and purple eye shadow have got to come back sometime. Here’s where you go until they do . . .

* The West End. One of the best places to relive the ‘70s has decided it’s time to move on to the tacky ‘80s. The Santa Monica West End features live ‘80s cover bands Saturday nights while its sister location in Redondo Beach hosts cover bands and deejays spinning ‘80s tunes on Fridays. The West End Santa Monica, 1301 5th St., Santa Monica. (323) 656-3905. The West End Redondo Beach, 100-J Fisherman’s Wharf, Redondo Beach. (310) 379-4755. 21 and older. $10. No food.

* The Ruby. When this Hollywood spot played Flock of Seagulls and A-ha in one of its two dance rooms on Friday nights, it went over so well that the Ruby dedicated Sundays to the Aquanet era with Club ‘80s. And one dance floor still has ‘80s music on Friday nights. 7070 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood. (323) 467-7070. 18 and over. $5-$10. Full menu.

* Hollywood Athletic Club. If you’re still teasing your hair, you should have no trouble fitting it into the cavernous rooms of this longtime Hollywood venue on Wednesday nights. DJ Terry Lutton spins tunes of the time at Club ‘80s. 6525 Sunset Blvd., Hollywood. (323) 962-6600. 18 and older. $2. Full menu.

* Candy Canyon. At this strip mall nightclub, a disco ball, mirrored walls and deejayed ‘80s tunes come together Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. But you may hear current Top 40 if “Flashdance” isn’t bringing the masses out on the dance floor. 6259 Topanga Canyon Blvd., Woodland Hills, (818) 992-9211. No cover. 21 and older.

* The Gate. It’s ‘80s music here when clubgoers want it. Wednesday nights this trendy nightclub and restaurant has a deejay mixing ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s tunes. The crowd on the dance floor determines what decade gets the most air time. 643 N. La Cienega Blvd., Los Angeles. (310) 289-8808. 21 and older. $10. Full menu.
