El Modena scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and rolled to a 31-0 Century League victory against Orange Thursday night at El Modena High.

It was El Modena’s first victory of the season. Orange (0-6) suffered its 18th consecutive loss.

Big plays were the name of the game for the Vanguards (1-5). Running back Rashaad Royal fumbled on Orange’s first offensive play. El Modena’s Behrod Ganjifard picked up the ball and ran 16 yards to give the Vanguards a 6-0 lead 12 seconds into the game.

“We hadn’t spent much time on the scoreboard so far,” El Modena Coach Jason Hitchens said. “So getting a score early like that gave us a lot of confidence.”

Things continued to go El Modena’s way in the first quarter.

After Orange punted on its next possession, El Modena went 58 yards in seven plays to score on Lee Tousignant’s seven-yard run for a 14-0 lead.

El Modena capped its first-quarter offensive flurry when Jordan Czaykowski went 64 yards on a screen pass with two seconds left.

El Modena’s 21 points in the first quarter were two more than it had scored all season.
