Metrolink Stop in Montalvo
* Re “Officials Revise Plan for Ventura Metrolink Station,” Oct. 11.
It is very discouraging to hear that the city and county are planning to construct the Ventura Metrolink stop in Montalvo.
Ventura needs a transit center that brings together Amtrak, SCAT [South Coast Area Transit], Greyhound and Metrolink. The transit center needs to bring people to the cultural, civic and tourist center of Ventura: Downtown. The federal funds available now are a great opportunity to make this a reality.
The city of Ventura and many members of the public have worked hard on Ventura Vision: Seize the Future. Building Ventura’s only Metrolink station on the extreme boundary of the city runs counter to this planning effort.
We should not allow the Ventura County Transportation Commission to “railroad” the city into accepting a Metrolink location that is inaccessible to people on public transportation and that will not bring visitors to the center of the city. The Ventura City Council needs to work out a better deal.
