LAKE FOREST
The Ridge Route Drive pedestrian tunnel officially opened Monday after almost three months of construction.
The walkway will allow people to cross under the Amtrak railroad tracks without walking through adjacent car tunnels.
Previously, students from nearby schools had to walk through the car tunnels, which have no sidewalks.
The City Council voted in July to spend $610,000 to build the tunnel after years of residents’ requests.
